The Alberta Female Hockey League is proud to announce the Players of the Month for the month of February – Evie Hanson, Madilyn Juneau, Gracie Hughes and Jordyn Dumont. The league is also proud to announce this month’s recipient of the Humanitarian of the Month Award, Tessa Sutcliffe.
Humanitarian of the Month
Tessa Sutcliffe – St. Albert Raiders Sharks U18 AA
Tessa is an exemplary student, teammate, and role model in her community. Whether she is on the ice, assisting as an apprentice coach for the U15AA Chargers, or organizing study groups to help her teammates prepare for exams, Tessa consistently shows a passion for helping others achieve their goals.
Her kind and approachable demeanour, along with her excellent communication skills and adaptability, have greatly benefited her during her time volunteering with Children’s Autism Services at events like the Practice Trick or Treat and their Annual Family Christmas Party. Tessa’s volunteer efforts have helped create meaningful experiences for the children and families at these events.
Both her coaches and teammates appreciate her hard work and supportive contributions during practices, games, and team activities. She is always eager to lend a helping hand and offer encouragement, making her a favourite among fans. Tessa’s ability to maintain her volunteer commitments while balancing high academic standards and competing in elite hockey is truly inspiring.
Players of the Month
U18 AAA – Evie Hanson – Edmonton Jr. Oilers – F (5GP, 4G, 4A, 8P)
Evie has emerged as a standout player this month, showcasing remarkable growth and determination. She has set career highs across all categories, solidifying her position as one of the top power forwards in the league. Kicking off February with a strong performance, recording four points in one game, Evie had points in all five games she played in February, consistently contributing to her team’s success. Her impressive scoring streak and tenacity have elevated her game and inspired those around her.
U18 AA – Madilyn Juneau – Rocky Mountain Raiders – G (4GP, 3W, 1.00GAA, .966SV%)
In a standout performance for February, Madilyn has showcased exceptional skill and leadership, finishing with a remarkable 3-1 record and allowing just four goals throughout the month. With an impressive goals-against average of 1.00, she currently ranks second in the league with an overall goals-against average of 1.46. Notably, her defensive prowess earned her two shutouts in February, adding to her league-leading total of seven this season. Her contributions have solidified her status as a top goaltender and demonstrate her commitment to excellence on the ice.
U15 AA – Gracie Hughes – Red Deer Chiefs – G (4GP, 3W, 1.00GAA, .958SV%)
In February, the U15AA league rookie goaltender Gracie Hughes posted an impressive .958 save percentage. Gracie quickly established herself as a formidable presence in the net, demonstrating remarkable calmness and composure even in high-pressure situations. Her ability to make clutch saves, with her sharp reflexes and solid positioning, has earned her accolades and a growing leadership role on her team. Gracie’s infectious positivity and energy resonate with her teammates, making her a true asset on and off the ice.
U13 AA – Jordyn Dumont – Calgary Fire White – F (9GP, 8G, 7A, 15P)
In an impressive display of skill and versatility, Jordyn Dumont had an exceptional month on the ice. She scored eight goals and provided seven assists, showcasing her offensive prowess. Her all-around game was equally remarkable, as she excelled in defensive and offensive roles, contributing significantly to her team’s success with a record of 6-1-2. Her ability to transition seamlessly between defence and attack made her a standout player, demonstrating her leadership, comprehensive understanding of the game, and invaluable presence on the team.
