AFHL’s Players of the Month – October 2024

The Alberta Female Hockey League is proud to announce the Players of the Month for the month of October – Ciera Lang, Mason Wood, Rylee Cruse and Hadley Herman. The league is also proud to announce this month’s recipient of the Humanitarian of the Month Award, Sydney Klebonosky.

Humanitarian of the Month

Sydney KlebonoskyPWM Lloydminster Steelers U18 AAA

As a part of her humanitarian actions, Sydney Klebonosky often involves herself with her host siblings in various community initiatives such as the U11 & U13 Development Program with Lloydminster Minor Hockey. Moreover, Sydney’s commitment to her team and the community extends beyond her personal achievements. She is committed to giving back into the community where she promotes the values of respect, discipline, and perseverance, participating in initiatives such as the Hockey Fights Cancer game, Referee Clinics, Food Drives and Anti-Bullying Campaigns. Sydney’s initiative helps nurture a love for the game among young players and strengthens the bond between the Steelers and the community.

Players of the Month

U18 AAA – Ciara Lang (Edmonton Jr. Oilers White – D) (3G, 2A, 5P, 4GP)

The 2024-25 season has already brought with a number of milestones for smooth-skating defender Ciara Lang. In addition to averaging more than a point per game, the second year Oilers player competed at Hockey Canada’s Women’s Under-18 Team Selection Camp in early August, then reported for Provincial Duty as part of Team Alberta at the U18 Women’s National Championships in New Brunswick. Lang will play a key role in the Jr. Oilers White hopes to repeat as AFHL and Pacific Regional Champions, and earn another bid to the Esso Cup.

U18 AA – Mason Wood (Lloydminster Musgrave Steelers – F) (3G, 2A, 5P, 4GP)

the Steelers Speedster brings a key veteran presence to her Lloydminster squad. A third-year forward, Wood is regularly counted on to jolt the bench with energy and use her pinpoint accurate shot. So far, she has delivered as promised to lead the team to a 3-1 record in October with 3 goals and 5 points.

U15 AA – Rylee Cruse (Southern Express – F) (4G, 3A, 7P, 4GP)

The veteran forward for the red-hot Southern Express has seen her name appear on the scoresheet in every game this season, averaging nearly 2 points per game through the month of October. While the ‘C’ on her chest technically stands for ‘Captain,’ you could be forgiven for thinking it stood for ‘clutch’ – Cruse already has 2 game winning goals to help establish the Express atop the South Division.

U13 AA – Hadley Herman (Calgary Fire Red – F) (2G, 3A, 5P, 2GP)

Tabbed a ‘dominant force’ by her Head Coach, Hadley earned her reputation before the AFHL season even began with key contributions to lead her Fire Black team to a semi-final appearance in the highly touted Hockey Calgary Thanksgiving Classic tournament. The balanced forward then averaged 2.5 points in her first two games of AFHL action and has only increased her torrid pace into November, contributing 7 points in her last two games.
